Medical Assistant

Diploma Program

Medical assistant programs teach students a variety of clinical and administrative procedures needed in physician offices.

The Diploma in Medical Assistant offered by Anthem College—Sacramento prepares students for entry-level positions as  medical assistants, medical or clinical laboratory technicians, and medical secretaries.

Students receive hands-on training in diagnostic and laboratory techniques. They learn how to give injections, and perform venipuncture and urinalysis. They learn how to operate electrocardiology (ECG) machinery and read its graphs. They study medical terminologies, the respiratory and circulatory systems, and how to measure blood pressure, body temperatures, pulse and respiratory rates.

In addition, students learn key administrative procedures including handling correspondence, scheduling appointments and communicating with patients. They are introduced to the concepts of medical insurance, billing processes and medical recordkeeping. They are also trained to provide medical office emergency procedures.

At Anthem College, we want to give our students the support they need to succeed.  We  provide:

  • Student services that help students remain in school
  • Real-world labs where students can develop and practice their skills on the latest equipment
  • Academic advising, tutoring and study groups organized by the Education Department
  • Supportive community environment

After they successfully complete all coursework, students enter an externship in a healthcare setting, which gives them valuable experience.
