Surgical Technologist

Diploma Program

Surgical technologists assist surgical teams and have important responsibilities before, during, and after surgery. They prepare the OR and surgical tools for surgery, hand and receive instruments to and from team members during procedures, and clean and disinfect the OR after surgery.

Surgical Technologist TrainingThe Surgical Technologist Diploma offered by Anthem Institute—North Brunswick teaches the technical and professional skills expected of applicants for entry-level positions with hospitals or surgical centers.

The surgical technology field is an active one in the New York and Philadelphia region, which includes dozens of hospitals and surgical centers, including world-renowned facilities such as New York Presbyterian Hospital, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Surgical Technology students take courses in general, orthopedic, specialty, and cardiovascular surgery, as well as anesthesia and pharmacology. They learn about proper positioning during surgery, infection control, instrumentation, and surgical supplies. They discuss ethics, life and death in the OR and the challenges they will face during surgery .

Anthem Institute’s goal is to see students succeed in school and in launching their careers. Our programs are designed to help them reach these goals.

  • Students can get individualized attention in our classes and are encouraged to ask questions.
  • Students develop and practice their skills in labs designed to look like real-world ORs.
  • Staff from our Education Department meet with each student to provide academic advice and assist with class schedules. They also arrange for tutoring and help organize study groups.
  • Our Student Services Department assist students who need outside services to remain in school.

After successfully completing all coursework, students enroll in an externship with a hospital, surgical center, or physician office where they participate in surgeries to test and further develop real-world skills.

Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Certification Examination, Tech in Surgery Certified, TS-C.
