Surgical Technologist
Diploma Program
Surgical technologists have vital responsibilities before, during, and after surgery. They prepare the OR, ensuring that instruments are sterilized and in the proper place on surgery trays; hand and receive instruments to and from team members during surgery; and clean and disinfect the OR after surgery.
Anthem Institute—Las Vegas offers a Surgical Technologist Diploma that teaches the technical and professional skills expected of applicants for entry-level positions with hospitals or surgical centers.
The Las Vegas region includes dozens of hospitals and surgical centers, including University Medical Center and the UHS and Sunrise chains.
Surgical Tech Training in Las Vegas
Surgical Technology students take courses in general, specialty, orthopedic, and cardiovascular surgery, as well as anesthesia and pharmacology. They learn about infection control, instrumentation, positioning during surgery, and surgical supplies. They discuss life and death in the OR and the challenges they will face during surgery and ethics.
The onsite training labs include a sterile instrument picking station where students train in sterilization technique and use new orthopedic and laparoscopic instrumentation. In addition, the school recently began a new suturing program.
After successfully completing all coursework, students enroll in an externship with a hospital, surgical center, or physician office where they participate in surgeries to test and further develop professional skills. Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Certification Examination, Tech in Surgery Certified, TS-C.
Anthem Institute’s goal is to see students succeed in school and in launching their careers. Our programs are designed to help them reach these goals.
- Students develop and practice their skills in labs designed to look like real-world ORs.
- Staff from our Education Department meet with each student to provide academic advice and assist with class schedules. They also arrange for tutoring and help organize study groups.
- Our Student Services Department assist students who need outside services to remain in school.
