Medical Assistant

Diploma Program

Medical assistant students learn multiple skills needed to provide administrative and clinical procedures for physician offices.

Medical Assisting DiplomaThe Medical Assistant Diploma program offered by Anthem Institute—Las Vegas trains students for entry-level positions in medical offices. Diploma holders compete for positions that include medical assistants, medical secretaries, and laboratory technicians.

Clinical Training for Medical Assistants

Students take clinical and administrative courses that cover areas ranging from medical office administration to laboratory and clinical procedures. They study body systems and anatomy, and learn CPR.

Students train and practice their skills in a lab that includes new pulmonary function test equipment, audiogram, scales, and centrifuge. They learn to use the Atria digital EKG machine and read graphs. They also learn injection, venipuncture, and sterilization techniques.

Anthem Institute’s focus is student success. We offer an educational experience that supports students’ academic goals:

  • Skills development in real-world labs that simulate medical offices
  • Education Department staff who meet with each student to provide academic guidance and who arrange tutoring when needed and organize study groups
  • Dedicated Student Services staff who can help students get outside services they need to remain in school
  • Volunteer opportunities where students can practice the skills they are learning, such as blood pressure checks at Las Vegas’ annual Back 2 School Nights

A career success class focuses on professional development skills, including identifying new career opportunities and money management.

After successfully completing all coursework, students enter an Externship in a healthcare setting. The Externship, a crucial part of training, requires 300 hours and gives students experience working in real-world situations under supervision from medical personnel.

Students who do not have a high school diploma or GED are encouraged to contact Anthem Institute about enrolling in the Medical Assistant Diploma program. Read about one GED/Medical Assistant student who was his class Valedictorian.
