Medical Assistant
Associate of Applied Science Degree
Medical assistant students prepare for a multifunctional career providing clinical and administrative services to medical offices. A good medical assistant program recognizes this need and offers courses that combine these two disciplines.

Career-Focused Medical Assistant Degree
Anthem College—Fenton (St. Louis, MO) offers a Medical Assistant Associate of Applied Science degree. It is an excellent option for students who want more expanded career opportunities once they have established themselves in the field. The career outlook for medical assistants is very good, and as a major metropolitan area, St. Louis is home to numerous physicians and medical facilities that employ medical assistants.
At Anthem College, we care about our student’s personal and academic success. In addition to a career-focused education, we provide:
- Real-world labs where students can develop and practice their skills
- Student services that help students remain in school
- Academic advising, tutoring and study groups organized by the Education Department
Our associate degree program includes courses that train students in clinical procedures as well as business and communications to help offices run smoothly. Course requirements include:
| Clinical | Business/Communications |
|---|---|
| Laboratory/Clinical Procedures | Risk Management |
| Cariopulmonary/ECG | Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving |
| Anatomy & CPR | Engaging in Communications |
| Health Sciences | Dimensions of Human Relations |
After completing all courses, students enter externships where they practice their skills in real-world settings. The externship further prepares students to sit for certification tests offered by major professional organizations including the American Association of Medical Assistants after graduation.
Graduates can compete for positions that include clinical or administrative medical assistant, laboratory assistant, medical bookkeepers, or medical receptionist. The associate degree also provides a broad background that can help students advance in their careers.
